PE stamp in Florida: FBC, HVHZ, and AHJ expectations
Florida AHJs apply the Florida Building Code, with extra wind and product-approval rules in Miami-Dade, Broward, and other HVHZ areas.

Start new quoteWhen a Florida PE stamp is required
The Florida Board of Professional Engineers (FBPE) licenses PEs who may seal engineering documents used for permits in Florida. Building departments statewide enforce the Florida Building Code (FBC). Commercial buildings, many residential structures in high-wind regions, threshold buildings, and substantial MEP or structural alterations typically need a Florida PE.
A PE licensed only in another state cannot seal a Florida permit set. AllInStamp assigns a Florida-licensed engineer and verifies the license before sealing.
HVHZ, product approvals, and coastal work
Miami-Dade and Broward (and some nearby work) sit in the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone. Reviewers look for opening protection, roof systems, and products with the correct Miami-Dade NOA or Florida product approval. Missing product approvals are one of the most common resubmittal loops.
If your package is a reroof, screen enclosure, aluminum structure, or window/door replacement in South Florida, say so in the quote. Those product lines have specialized reviewers and checklists.
Threshold buildings and special inspectors
Threshold buildings, as defined in section 553.71, Florida Statutes—generally more than three stories or 50 feet tall, or an assembly occupancy over 5,000 square feet with an occupant content over 500—carry additional threshold inspection requirements, including a special inspector in addition to the design PE. Do not assume a stamp on the drawings covers special inspection. Call out threshold status so intake can scope review correctly.
What to attach for a cleaner Florida submittal
Include design wind speed, exposure, risk category, and flood zone on the structural cover. Attach product-approval sheets or a product schedule. Confirm whether the municipality uses e-plan software that wants bookmarks and a sheet index that matches file names.

FAQ
- Does a Florida PE stamp include product approvals?
- The PE is responsible for specifying compliant systems. The NOA or FL product-approval documents still need to be in the permit set. We can review whether the drawings call the right products; we do not replace manufacturer listings.
- Can you stamp in Miami-Dade and elsewhere in Florida?
- Yes. We match a Florida-licensed PE and note HVHZ or coastal criteria when you identify the city in the quote.
- What files should I upload?
- PDF plan sets (preferred) or PNG sheets. Include calculations and the city’s comment letter on resubmittals. Each PNG counts as one page in the live quote.

California building departments expect a California-licensed PE on regulated structural, civil, and MEP work. Many projects also need Title 24 documentation, depending on scope and the AHJ.
