When a Georgia PE stamp is required

The Georgia State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors licenses Professional Engineers under O.C.G.A. § 43-15. Local building departments enforce the state minimum standard codes. Atlanta, Savannah, Augusta, Columbus, and county offices each run their own portal. A PE licensed only in another state cannot seal a Georgia permit set.

Typical triggers include commercial structure, tenant work that changes a load path or egress, non-prescriptive residential framing and foundations, retaining walls, and MEP the city will not accept unsigned. Atlanta asks for stamped structural and site plans on commercial and light-commercial pools. AllInStamp matches a Georgia-licensed PE and verifies the license before sealing.

DCA minimum codes and the Atlanta cycle

The Department of Community Affairs adopts the International Building, Residential, Energy, Mechanical, Plumbing, Fuel Gas, and Swimming Pool codes, plus the National Electrical Code, as state minimum codes, each with Georgia amendments. Local governments enforce those minimums and may amend them only where state law allows. Life safety under NFPA 101 and the Georgia Accessibility Code are coordinated with the State Fire Marshal. A structural stamp does not replace those reviews.

The City of Atlanta aligned permit submissions beginning January 1, 2026 with the 2024 IBC and IRC and the companion 2024 I-codes, plus Georgia amendments, and with the 2023 NEC with Georgia amendments. Some counties do not share that effective date. Put the cycle named on the application on sheet G-001.

Seal design and the firm certificate of authorization

Board Rule 180-12-.02 requires the registrant to seal, sign, and date original final documents issued to a client or public agency, and to show the firm’s certificate of authorization name, authorization number, and expiration. Sealing certifies the work was performed by the registrant or under the registrant’s direct supervisory control. The date of signature sits immediately under the seal and signature.

The board-authorized seal is a circle, 1-1/2 inches outside and 1 inch inside, and may be a crimp, a rubber stamp, or computer-generated. The license number includes the PE prefix, and the name should match the board’s record. If an editable CAD or vector file is transmitted beyond the licensee’s control, the computer-generated seal comes off unless the file is signed with an electronic signature that is unique to the licensee, verifiable, and under the licensee’s sole control.

Atlanta review versus coastal Georgia

Metro Atlanta comments often turn on occupancy, construction type, deferred submittals, and a sheet index that matches the online filing. Coastal counties—Chatham and the barrier islands, Glynn, Camden, and nearby work—add design wind speed, exposure, and opening protection. A Tybee Island reroof is not the same review as a Midtown tenant improvement.

Name the city or county in the quote. Atlanta’s Office of Buildings takes most building, trade, and planning applications digitally. Smaller counties may still want a wet stamp on close-out. Say which workflow the receiving office files.

How to get a Georgia set sealed

Upload the PDF plan set and calculations with the project address, adopted code edition, and the firm of record so the COA block can be completed. Include product data when the scope is a reroof, opening replacement, or pool. Out-of-state drawings can be reviewed. Only a Georgia licensee who takes responsible charge applies the seal.

Start a new quote with Georgia prefilled. Intake typically responds within 24–48 hours. Stamp turnaround then follows page count and whether rush service is selected.

FAQ

Does a Georgia PE stamp need the firm’s COA on the drawings?
Final documents issued to a client or a public agency need the certificate of authorization name, authorization number, and expiration along with the individual PE seal, signature, and date. Include the firm of record in the quote.
Can you stamp in Atlanta and elsewhere in Georgia?
Yes. The license is statewide. The portal, local amendments, and wind criteria change with the city. Identify the jurisdiction so intake routes the set correctly.
Are computer-generated seals accepted in Georgia?
Yes. The board allows a crimp, a rubber stamp, or a computer-generated seal of the required design. An electronic signature is required when a sealed file will leave the licensee’s direct control. Note if a county still wants wet ink on close-out.
